LAW 3 - NUMBER OF PLAYERS

Law 3 requires a maximum of 11 players on the field and a minimum of 7. AYSO permits exceptions to this law for small sided games of all age groups. These exceptions are made for the development of the young players. Below are AYSO's recommendations for small sided games.

•	A player who has been sent off may not be replaced.
•	Substitutes come under the jurisdiction of the referee. Region 515 AYSO teams may substitute during quarter breaks, or for injuries.
•	In AYSO, each team member must play a minimum of one half of the match.
•	One player on each team must be designated as goalkeeper.
•	In AYSO, play may be stopped at any time by the referee to attend to an injured player. A dropped ball is used to restart play if the ball was in play at the time of the stoppage.
